The story behind “My Heart Got a DUI” began in 2007 when songwriter Beverly VanScyoc-Corey found herself navigating the end of an on-again, off-again relationship.

The morning after the breakup, a friend called with unexpected news.

“Did you hear so-and-so got a DUI last night?”

Without hesitation, Beverly replied:

“My heart got a DUI last night.”

Minutes later, she sat down and wrote the song.

There was only one problem.

She wasn’t a singer.

Rather than force the song into the wrong hands, Beverly put it away and waited.

For nearly two decades.

Then one evening at Newton’s Saddle Rack in Stephenville, Texas, everything changed.

Beverly walked in and heard a young woman singing Rihanna’s “Stay.” The room had gone still. Patrons stopped conversations. Heads turned. The voice commanded attention.

That voice belonged to Molly Gaynor.

Beverly knew immediately the search was over.

Long before stepping into a recording studio, Molly Gaynor was already performing on one of the biggest stages in western sports.

At just 11 years old, Gaynor was selected to sing the National Anthem at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas, Nevada, one of the most prestigious events in professional rodeo.

The performance showcased a voice capable of commanding an arena and hinted at a future beyond the rodeo arena.

Today, Gaynor is a student at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, where she competes on the university rodeo team as both a team roping heeler and breakaway roper.

Originally from Powell Butte, Oregon, her family relocated to Stephenville in 2020. The move connected her with songwriter and label founder Beverly VanScyoc-Corey and her husband, legendary cowboy Clint Corey, an 18-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier and PRCA World Champion.

The connection runs deeper than music.

Powell Butte is also Clint Corey’s hometown, creating an immediate bond between the families. Gaynor and the Coreys have built a relationship through shared roots, shared roots, rodeo traditions, and an unwavering belief in her future.

A Family Built on Hard Work and Western Values

Music and determination run deep in the Gaynor family.

Her father, owner of Direct Ag Solutions and the Ranch X western lifestyle brand, has often been known to pull up a chair and sing alongside his daughter. Her mother, a former trauma nurse and current nurse practitioner, has become one of Molly’s strongest advocates, helping support and nurture her growing music career while continuing to serve communities across Texas.

Her younger sister, Mattie Gaynor, is carrying on the family’s rodeo tradition while pursuing her own college education.
