CASPER, Wyo. (June 16, 2026) — The first performance of the College National Finals Rodeo kicked off in the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper on Tuesday night and oh what a night it was.

Even though this was the first full performance of the rodeo, competition has been ongoing since Sunday and all the 427 athletes have made two appearances. For the first time this year, everyone is in the third round with their sights set on a trip to the Championship Finals on Saturday night.

At the top of that list is Tyler Hansen from Killdeer, North Dakota. Hansen is a recent graduate of Bismarck State College who is competing in tie-down roping. He won the first round of competition here, then was solid in rounds two and three. His 9.1-second run was the second fastest on Tuesday night, but his lead in the overall standings here is commanding. He has a total of 28.4 seconds compared to Brody Clemons from Tarleton State University who has 41.3 seconds.

Hansen is riding a horse he bought from Taylor Santos who won the college title in the tie-down roping here as a freshman in 2014. The four-legged athlete is also being ridden here by Hansen’s younger brother, Kale Hansen, who is a freshman at Bismarck State College.

The fast time in round three is currently being held by Trey Stembridge from Utah Valley University. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a time in the first round, so he is unlikely to be among the top 12 that advance to the championship round.

Alyssa Gary
Alyssa Gary – The goat tying at this year’s College National Finals Rodeo has been outstanding and no one has been more consistent than Alyssa Gary so far. The McNeese State University junior has made three runs that add up to 19.1 seconds to lead the overall standings.

The goat tying here has been extremely competitive. For many of these women, it’s their last opportunity to compete and they are making the most of it. Alyssa Gary, a junior at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana currently leads the overall standings with 19.1 seconds on three runs. Her 6.1 on Tuesday night is in second place, but based on previous rounds that is unlikely to stay at the top of the leaderboard. The first and second rounds were both won with times under the six-second mark.

Jace Lomheim
Jake Lomheim – Canada has a rising rodeo star in bareback rider Jake Lomheim. The freshman at Tarleton State University took the lead in the third round of competition with an 81.5-point ride. The former novice champion is also third in the overall standings and in contention for a spot in Saturday night’s championships.

The third round leader in the bareback riding is Jace Lomheim, a freshman at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, had the high score on Tuesday. He marked 81.5 points on Sankey Pro Rodeo and Phenom Genetics’ horse named Pick-Up Sticks.

Lomheim moved to Texas from his home in Hughenden, Alberta, Canada. Before starting his education here, he was the best novice bareback rider north of the border. Now he is third in the overall standings and could be riding for his first college title.

Collin Roland, a sophomore at Missouri Valley College in Marshall leads the overall standings with a total of 234.5 points on three rides. Lomheim is in third place with 230.5. He will have to wait through three more performances to see if he advances Saturday night’s championships.

The second performance of the CNFR begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday where the third round continues.
