CASPER, Wyo. (June 17, 2026) — As college rodeo’s best compete at the 2026 edition of the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in the Ford Wyoming Center, the leaderboard changing often.

The second performance of the rodeo saw the third round of competition getting very tight. In the bareback riding, Clarendon College made a move. The Texas program is home to Carson Hildre, who grew up at Velva, South Dakota. He rode the MoBetta Rodeo horse named Sweet Caroline for 85 points. It was a big ride for the freshman who also competes in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). That gave him the lead in the third round, and put him at the top of the overall standings with a total of 243.25 points. Colton Farrow from the University of Wyoming, who also rode on Wednesday night, is second with 239.50.

Hildre is currently 21st in the PRCA world standings and leads the Resistol Rookie of the Year race. He would love to take off for the summer rodeo run as the newly crowned college champion.

A year ago, Cameron Haumea from Sul Ross State University left Casper as the college steer wrestling champion. He moved to the third round lead with a 4.0 second run. Unfortunately, a 10-second penalty in the first round will work against him. However, his other times have been fast enough to put him fourth overall. He still has a shot to be in the top 12 to advance to the championship finals.

There is also a new overall leader in that event. Clay Tom Hurt from Sam Houston State University has nearly a four-second advantage over the rest of the field so far. He has a total time of 14.4 seconds on three runs and leads over Texas Tech’s Hadley White with 18.3.

University of Wyoming fans were on their feet during the goat tying when junior Josie Mousel stopped the clock in 6.2 seconds. Mousel is now second in the third round and she took command of the overall standings with a total time of 18.0 seconds. She is also competing in the breakaway roping and is in contention for the women’s all-around championship.

Josie Mousel – University of Wyoming standout Josie Mousel stopped the clock in 6.2 seconds in the goat tying to move to second in the third round and first overall at the College National Finals Rodeo. The first team ropers out set the bar high. Denton Parish and Brock Borkman from Weatherford College in Texas stopped the clock in 4.3 seconds. The freshmen are currently fourth overall. Then the next team matched that 4.3 second run. Brothers Sanders and Scout McElroy are going to different schools but are both in the Ozark Region. Sanders is at East Mississippi Community College and Scout is attending Southern Arkansas University.

Heston Harrison from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Nick Lovins from Kansas’s Garden City Community College moved to the top of the overall standings with a total time of 17.7 on three runs.

Weatherford College is also at the top in bull riding. Mecate Trammell, a junior from Whitt, Texas, rode MoBetta Rodeo’s bull named Uncle Kneebanger for 86.5 points to take the lead in the third round. He has ridden two of three bulls and is looking good for Saturday night’s finals.

The third performance of the CNFR begins at 7 p.m. Thursday where contestants will be in the third round and hoping to be in the top 12 in the overall standings and qualify for Saturday night’s finals.
