CASPER, Wyo. (June 19, 2026) — Dreams of becoming a National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association champion are close for 102 athletes after the fourth performance of the College National Finals Rodeo on Friday.

Starting last Sunday every competitor has had the opportunity to compete three times. Their scores and times have been added together with the top 12 in bareback riding, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding advancing to the championship round.

At stake are individual titles as well as men’s and women’s team and all-around championships. For many of these athletes, college rodeo is the end of their arena pursuits. For those that go on to compete professionally, it is a big stepping stone.

One of those is bareback rider Kooper Heimburg, from San Tan Valley, Arizona, who is finishing his college career at Missouri Valley College. Heimburg won the first round of competition here, finished outside the top eight in round two and came back on Friday night determined to do better.

That’s exactly what the ag business major did. He had the high marked ride on Friday at 81.75 points to finish third in the round and move to the top overall. Heimburg edged Carson Hildre from Clarendon (Texas) College by a mere point. Heimburg has 243.50 to be at the top of the leaderboard. He finished as the reserve champion one year ago and is hoping to stay in that number one spot and earn his first title..

Andrew Morian
Clarendon (Texas) College has a steer wrestler at the top of the College National Finals Rodeo. Andrew Morian from Gardnerville, Nevada, stopped the clock in 3.7 seconds on Friday night to win the third round. He is in the lead for the championship with a total time of 12.2 seconds.

Rodeo fans might not have heard of Andrew Morian, from Gardnerville, Nevada, but if Friday night was any indication, that will change. Morian is a sophomore at Clarendon (Texas) College and took command of the leaderboard. He stopped the clock in 3.7 seconds to win the third round. Combined with his previous two times, he now comes into the finals in first place with 12.2 seconds on three runs. He has a 1.4-second lead over Bismarck State College’s Parker Sandstrom who is now second.

Tagg Bond
The most successful athlete so far at this year’s CNFR is Tagg Bond from Eden, Kansas. Bond has won all three preliminary rounds of saddle bronc riding and leads the field for the championship. He rode Summit Pro Rodeo’s horse named Devil’s Star for 85 points to win the third round. He has a total of 254.75 for the overall lead and could handily win his first national title.

No one has had more success at this year’s CNFR than saddle bronc rider Tagg Bond from Edna, Kansas. With his 85-point ride on Summit Pro Rodeo’s horse named Devil’s Star on Friday night,, the Clarendon (Texas) College freshman has won every round in the Ford Wyoming Center so far. He has a total of 254.75 points on three rides and leads the overall standings by nearly five points.

Saturday night’s championship round starts at 7 p.m. in the Ford Wyoming Center. At the conclusion of the competition, champions will be crowned and the 2025-2026 college rodeo season will come to a close.
