FORT WORTH, Texas, (Jan. 28, 2024) — With just one more bracket left to compete at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s ProRodeo Tournament, it’s looking good for a Wright to win the saddle bronc riding title this year.
Stuart Wright, brother of world champion Cody Wright was the first of the legendary family to qualify for the Semi-Finals.
Then, Statler Wright, his nephew and son of Cody Wright, advanced on Saturday afternoon. The two-time world champion, Ryder Wright scored 88.5 points Saturday night to win the first round of bracket 6.
Ryder Wright came back Sunday afternoon and scored 86 points on United Pro Rodeo’s Awesome Sauce to win Round 2.
Now the Beaver, Utah, resident is headed to the Semi-Finals to compete against his brother Statler and his uncle.
Spencer Wright, the 2014 world champion and older brother of Stuart, will be the last of the family to compete in the brackets in Dickies Arena.
He is part of Bracket 7 that will be held on Monday and Tuesda
Last year, the family watched as Stetson Wright, the eight-time world champion and brother of Ryder and Statler, won his second saddle bronc riding title in Fort Worth.
This year the rest of the family is carrying the torch as Stetson is out with injuries until June.
The big winner in the bull riding on Sunday afternoon was Wacey Schalla from Arapaho, Oklahoma.
Schalla is a new member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association at 18 years old.
He also competes in the bareback riding and is a freshman at Clarendon (Texas) College.
He didn’t compete in the first round on Saturday, but when world champion bull rider Ky Hamilton was injured, Schalla got the call to get on a bull in Dickies Arena.
Schalla was one of three bull riders who were successful on Sunday, riding United Pro Rodeo’s Happy Days for 85.5 points.
That was good enough for first place in the second round and earned him $2,167.
The final bracket of this year’s rodeo starts on Military Monday.
Bracket 7’s second round will be Tuesday and will determine the remaining qualifiers for the Semi-Finals and Wild Card Rounds.
