Well-known for his robust baritone vocals, Country Music Legend Neal McCoy has been one of country music’s favorite sons for many years and he’s still going full-speed.

He has lent his voice on an impressive cover of the 1992 hit song “First Time for Everything” to be included on an upcoming tribute album honoring the music of Little Texas.

Neal McCoy’s tribute version of “First Time For Everything” pays homage to the song that left an indelible mark on the country music landscape.

“There’s a First Time for Everything.’ What a wonderful song!”

“Neal’s voice and personality complement this song amazingly. He was a great fit for it.”

Executive Producer Brandyn Steen

“I met Neal when I was a kid in high school in Longview, Texas, somewhere in the mid-80s,”

PRODUCER DUANE PROPES

I had heard about this great singer who performed at Canton’s Chinese Restaurant doing jazz music with only a piano player, and when I first heard him singing Al Jarreau just like the records, I was floored.

His range and style was amazing, as was his rapport with the crowd, and I remember saying to myself,

“I’m gonna work with that guy someday”

PRODUCER DUANE PROPES

Over the years I did several shows with Neal (always opening, because nobody wants to follow that show), but that ‘someday’ came a few months ago when I was given the opportunity to produce and consult on a tribute project with Brandyn Steen.

‘First Time For Everything’ was the perfect song for Neal.

The loping, waltz-style mixed with a tongue-in-cheek lyric was open to his interpretation of the melody and phrasing and in typical Neal fashion, he nailed it and made the song his own.

“FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING” LYRICS

“I don’t stay out all night
I don’t close down the bars
And I don’t make a fool of myself
Well, I don’t drink too much
And I don’t get too loud
And I don’t ever raise too much hell

But there’s a first time for everything
Since you said goodbye
There’s not much of anything
That I haven’t tried
To somehow get over you
There’s no tellin’ what I might do
‘Cause if I’ve learned anything
There’s a first time for everything…”

“First Time for Everything” was co-written by Porter Howell and Dwayne O’Brien. This new version was recorded at ER Studio in Nashville, Tennessee with David Spielberg serving as Engineer and Bart Busch as Mixer.

The stellar group of session musicians included Mark Matejka (lead and acoustic guitar), Dane Bryant (keys), Duane Propes (bass) and Corey Wright (drums).
