FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan. 26, 2026) When Sunday morning dawned, Trey Kimzey of Strong City, Oklahoma, was not on the program for the afternoon performance of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) ProRodeo Tournament.

Kimzey, who finished the 2025 season ranked 28th in the bull riding world standings, had the qualifications to compete here, but missed the entry date. The only way he would be able to ride in Dickies Arena this year was if another bull rider was unable to compete. The winter storm kept South Dakota’s Jeff Bertus away from Fort Worth so Kimzey was allowed to take Bertus’ slot as a last-minute replacement just before rodeo time.

The career experience that Kimzey, a four-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier, has at age 27 helped him concentrate on the unexpected chance. He was the only bull rider to make a qualified ride in round one of Bracket 2. He earned $7,400 on

Rafter G Rodeo’s BabaBooey and is virtually guaranteed a trip to the Semi-Finals since the top two money winners from each bracket advance.

First was the position to draw in the timed events on Sunday. Tanner Brunner of Ramona, Kansas, who won the FWSSR ProRodeo Tournament in 2024 was the first steer wrestler to compete, stopping the clock in 3.7 seconds. The closest any other cowboy could get was a 3.9 by Oklahoma’s Chance Howard.

Young gun Tyler Tryan of Lipan, Texas, and five-time NFR heeler Levi Lord of Sturgis, South Dakota, were first out in team roping and caught their steer in 4.3 seconds to win the round. In tie-down roping NFR veteran Kincade Henry of Mount Pleasant, Texas, also won the round as the first man to rope.

The 16-day tournament features 56 competitors (56 teams in team roping) in each event, divided into seven brackets of eight. The field includes top-ranked rodeo athletes from the 2025 and early 2026 season along with the winners from six nearby 2025 rodeos – Waxahachie, Cleburne, Gladewater, Mineral Wells, Wichita Falls and Denton – and the winners from the $100,000 FWSSR Rookie Rally.

Contestants in each bracket compete in two rounds of back-to-back action with the top two money earners in each event advancing to the semi-finals. The top four from each Semi-Finals move on to Championship Saturday, February 7.

The third highest money winner in each bracket advances to the wild card round and the top two in the wild card round also advance to the Semi-Finals.

Bracket 2 concludes Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at Dickies Arena. Monday is Tarleton State Day at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Wearing Tarleton State gear earns free grounds admission and those with a valid Tarleton State ID can buy gallery rodeo tickets for half price.
