ChristinaNASHVILLE, Tenn. – The (3-6) Nashville Stampede completed a dramatic 259.25-258.25 walk-off win over the (4-6) Carolina Cowboys in front of an energetic Bridgestone Arena crowd Saturday Night during the second night of PBR Teams: Stampede Days.
Veteran Cody Jesus provided the heroics in the bottom of the fifth for the hometown contingent by going the distance aboard Buffalo Heifer for a Day 2-high 89 points.
“This is why you do it – go through the injuries, work your tail off: to chase this feeling. There’s nothing like it in the world,” Stampede Head Coach Justin McBride said on home dirt following Jesus’ game-clinching out.
Stampede teammates Alan de Souza (85.5 points on Late Night Toss) and Austin Richardson (84.75 points aboard L.A.)helped set the stage earlier in the game, providing clutch conversions during the team’s opening pair of opportunities.
With the win, Nashville improved to 1-1 across the first two nights of the team’s three-day homestand on Broadway, now set to host the (5-5) Missouri Thunder Sunday afternoon during the weekend’s finale.
The Arizona Ridge Riders (9-1) maintained the league’s top rank while improving to a perfect 2-0 at Stampede Days courtesy of a close 88.5-86 victory over the (1-9) New York Mavericks Saturday night inside the home of the NHL’s Nashville Predators.
Officially recording the second-longest win streak in PBR history via the team’s ninth-straight win, the Ridge Riders have a chance to tie the league record Sunday afternoon during a looming showdown with the (7-3) Austin Gamblers. The Texas Rattlers won 10 straight games in 2022.
Luciano De Castro stepped up for the red-hot Ridge Riders by logging an 88.5-point conversion aboard Peterbilt and is now 8-for-10 on the young season, while Bob Mitchell recorded an 86-pointer atop Gaucho for New York.
The (7-3) Austin Gamblers secured a fourth-consecutive win Saturday night with a dramatic 173-172.25 victory over the (1-9) Oklahoma Wildcatters. Dener Barbosa improved to 2-for-2 on the weekend courtesy of an 86.75-point conversion aboard 38 Special. Dalton Kasel also stayed perfect inside Bridgestone Arena by besting Smoke Show for a quality 86.25 points in the fifth frame. Kyler Oliver (86.75 points aboard Self Made) and Cort McFadden (85.5 points atop Dark Thoughts) made it a close game for Oklahoma, but the second-year squad eventually dropped its ninth decision of the season.
The (6-4) Kansas City Outlaws bounced back to pick up a clutch win over the (7-3) Texas Rattlers in in Game 2, 259.75-175, despite seeing the Australian ace Brady Fielder improve to a perfect 7-for-7 on the season courtesy of an 87.5-pointer on Cutting Edge Sugar Daddy. Dawson Branton went on to record an 87.5-point atop Cramer, but the Outlaws were up to the task.
Knocking down a pair of re-rides, Koltin Hevalow (87 points atop Barbarosa) and Heitor Santos Ferreira (86 points aboard Lever Action) teamed up with Eric Henrique Domingos (86.75 points on Red Ant) to secure the win.
Boudreaux Campbell provided a game-winning 86.25-point conversion aboard I’ll Make Ya Famous to lead his (5-5) Missouri Thunder to a tight win against the (6-4) Florida Freedom during the evening’s third matchup. 2024 PBR Teams MVP John Crimber managed an 85-pointer dancing with SPM during Florida’s final out, but it wasn’t enough to complete the walk-off win.
Bovine standout Magic Potion added to his PBR record-setting buckoff streak Saturday night by shedding the Rattlers’ Callum Miller to the dirt in 2.22 seconds, thus logging his 51st-straight buckoff.
The action resumes at Stampede Days for the third day of the event Sunday, August 17 at 12:15 p.m. CT in Nashville, Tennessee, at Bridgestone Arena.
