DENVER, Colo. (Jan. 25, 2026) —When the 120th National Western Stock Show came to a close on Sunday, Jan. 25, a highlight was crowing this year’s rodeo champions.
The very colorful Cooper Filipek, from Rapid City, S.D., earned his first major professional rodeo when he scored 85.5 points to win the bareback riding. Filipek, who is the reigning champion at the collegiate level is healthy and focusing on his Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association career. He earned $7,380 in the Denver Coliseum.
In the steer wrestling it was Mike McGinn, from Haines, Oregon that had the fast time at 3.6 seconds. McGinn won the title here in 2022 and has been on the edge of qualifying for his first National Finals Rodeo. He finished one spot out in 2025. He earned $9,302 here in Denver and is hoping that momentum will keep rolling through the rest of the regular season.
The fast time in the team roping went to the newly formed team roping duo of Tanner Tomlinson from Lipan, Texas, and Coleby Payne, from Stephenville, Texas. They stopped the clock in 3.5 seconds to tie the arena record. They also placed in a round bringing their total earnings to $12,629.
Parker Fleet from Axtell, Texas had an 89.5-point ride in the saddle bronc riding to earn the title. Fleet rode R. Watson’s Prairie Fire owned by Cervi Championship Rodeo and earned a total of $8,316. The tie-down roping was fast with Dylan Hancock from San Angelo, Texas, earning $9,268 with his 7.1 second run.
Stetson Wright from Beaver, Utah, earned his first title here when he rode Vitalix Ringling Road for 90 points. With his success in the rounds, he added $17,196 in that event.
The 2026 edition of the rodeo had a total payout of $735,103. Plans are underway for the 121st event which will take place in January of 2027.
